Ogunquit & the coast

Things to Do in Ogunquit: A Coastal Day with Time to Eat

Rocky Maine coastline beside the ocean

A good Ogunquit day leaves room to change your mind. Start with the beach if the weather invites it, trade a long walk for a gallery visit if the wind picks up, and leave an actual meal break in the plan. Ogunquit Beach, Marginal Way, Perkins Cove and the Ogunquit Museum of American Art offer different ways to enjoy the coast.

Sweet Rice Thai Kitchen can be your lunch or dinner stop at 309 Shore Road. The itinerary below is a suggestion from our restaurant, not a guided tour or a timetable for the attractions. Choose one main morning activity and one afternoon activity rather than trying to fit every stop into a single day.

Start with a beach morning or breakfast in the village

If you are comparing the best breakfast in Ogunquit, decide whether you want a sit-down meal or a café stop before choosing your route. Ogunquit cafés and bakeries make sense for an early start; Sweet Rice's lunch service begins at 11:00 AM. Keeping breakfast and lunch separate prevents an outing from depending on a restaurant that has not opened yet.

For a beach morning, check the forecast and the town's parking information before setting out. Pick a public access point that fits your starting location. Leave spare time for getting back to your vehicle, changing out of beach clothes and deciding whether lunch belongs before or after the next stop.

Connect Marginal Way with Perkins Cove

The Town of Ogunquit describes Marginal Way as a 1.25-mile paved coastal walk connecting Shore Road with Perkins Cove. Treat it as a scenic outing rather than a quick transfer between errands. If you stop to enjoy the views, your schedule should allow for that.

Perkins Cove combines a working harbor with an artist community. Decide whether the Cove is the end of your walk or the beginning, then plan where you need to return. A one-way walk does not automatically bring you back to your car. Our Marginal Way and Perkins Cove dining guide focuses on that route-planning question.

Choose art nearby or a separate nature outing

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is at 543 Shore Road and has a seaside sculpture garden. Check its current opening dates before making it the anchor of your afternoon. It is a useful choice when your group wants art and coastal scenery in the same outing.

Mount Agamenticus belongs on its own outing

Mount Agamenticus is in the nearby York area, not on the downtown Ogunquit walking route. Use its official visit-planning information to choose a trail, understand admission arrangements and plan transport. A hill outing is a different commitment from adding another shop to a stroll.

Wells Reserve offers another kind of coastal landscape

The Wells Reserve at Laudholm trail guide describes paths through fields, woodland and estuary landscapes in Wells. Make it an alternative half-day, rather than squeezing it between the beach and the museum. For a longer regional trip, see our seasonal Maine coast guide.

Build in a meal break, not another deadline

Sweet Rice lists lunch from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and dinner from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If you want lunch, avoid letting several small stops carry you into the break between services. For dinner, a noodle bowl, seafood curry or a few shared starters gives the day a different rhythm after time outdoors.

Our free customer parking is for your meal at Thompson Green Plaza, not an all-day attraction parking plan. If your beach day ends with everyone ready to return to their accommodation, Thai delivery may suit the evening better. That flexibility matters more than completing every stop on a checklist.

Questions before you visit

Can I visit Ogunquit Beach, Marginal Way and Perkins Cove in one day?

You can build a day around those places, but leave room for transport, parking, weather and the walk back. Choose the route based on where you begin and finish rather than assigning exact minutes to each stop.

Is Acadia National Park a nearby Ogunquit attraction?

No. Acadia belongs to a different part of Maine and needs a separate travel plan. It is better considered on a longer Maine itinerary than as a local Ogunquit afternoon stop.
